If
you list all the elements by the number of electrons orbiting their
nucleus, it becomes clear that atoms with similar properties appear at
regular intervals, or periods. Neon has eight more
electrons than helium, but it behaves very similarly. Argon has
eight more electrons than neon, and it behaves similarly to neon and
helium. If you stack all the elements with similar properties on
